I gave this novel 2-1/2 stars because it is much too simplistic in its depiction of an extremely dysfunctional family. The husband is controlling and abusive, and this type of character should not be whitewashed as this novel attempts to do. I cannot recommend this book.

Free on Kindle. Spoilers are here. This is a sweet story. Penny picks up her husband's loose change and saves & invests it. She tries new things, makes new friends, and gives money to people who need it. Her husband knows nothing about this. When she dies he finds out & realizes that she honored his impoverished past in her approach to charity.
