The author, a native of Dallas, TX, and the widow of the former senior pastor at Highland Park United Methodist Church, has written this book based on personal experience to guide the reader into, through and beyond the heart broken by grief. This is a practical, “how-to” book, its foundation secured in Scripture. Footnotes, which provide help for those interested in further reading, serve a valuable purpose, since this work suffers from the absence of a bibliography. A section entitled “Grief at the Holidays” is especially insightful. This, it seems to me, is a “follow-up” book. For the person who has only recently suffered a loss, I fear its length will be daunting. In that case, a shorter work such as “Good Grief” by Granger Westberg, might be more appropriate.
