Excellent work of archeological analysis mainly in southern Italy about the archeology of colonies and how it reflects changes in political ideology and in turn how the experience of colonization would drive changes in political philosophy. Analyses the change of ideology at the beginning of the 5th century that would result in Ackerburger colonies, where land was allotted in equal parts to all citizens who would live in the urban asty and participate actively in political life, while for the first generations life would be sustained in very modest conditions. How this situation of ideal egalitarianism would reflect in dependencies with the mother colony as well as in conflict of identity with the hinterland inhabitants and how division of labor would inevitably drive, over time, into a degradation by which some citizens would become increasingly ruralized (and less Greek in a sense) while others a variety of occupations and inequality of distribution would impose over time.The last chapter which includes a reflection on how these events may have influenced political philosophy is particularly interesting and compelling.… (mehr)
