This new selection of his writings on war brings once more to the forefront the polemical writings of one of the most outspoken commentators of the twentieth century. As a co-founder of the Fabian society, an equal rights campaigner and an ardent socialist, Shaw was never known to shy away from controversy: he was accused of treason on the strength of his 1914 publication Common Sense About the War, which affronted patriots and the government alike.
