Über mich
I am an elementary education teacher in Pinellas County, Florida, who is also working on getting my Master’s degree in LIS at Florida State University. I do not recall taking any YA literature courses before; however, the last children’s literature course I took was in 1998 at USF by Dr. Frye, which I had to read The Giver by Lois Lowry. This book became a favorite of mine because the plot is very suspenseful making it difficult to put the book down and it can be directly connected to our lives in society today. Such as the ways that people think and react to each other are portrayed throughout the novel, whether it be one's unwillingness to listen or the general acceptance of the way things have been done in the past. It is also easy to see how people today take what they have for granted such as love or even relationships.

I teach first graders which YA literature is not appropriate reading for them; however, I have former students visit me once in awhile, who are in the upper grade levels, and we usually discuss what YA literature they’ve been reading.
