I'm a freelance writer from Louisiana and my background is in law enforcement. I've spent twenty-four years (and counting) on the job and have served in numerous capacities, including as a patrol cop, detective, police academy instructor, SWAT officer, sniper leader, and the chief investigator for a district attorney's office.

My debut novel titled JAMES 516 was recently released by Amber Quill Press, and I have two more novels under contract; THE SEVENTH TAKING (Amber Quill Press, April 2014) and HOLLOW CRIB (Five Star-Cengage, 2016). I've had over 185 short stories, articles, and fillers published in dozens of venues, including Woman's World, Boys' Life, Law and Order, and Tactical Response. I'm the former owner of a mystery magazine called Mouth Full of Bullets (2006 through 2008) and am currently an active member of Mystery Writers of America and a member of Sisters in Crime.

In addition to being a writer and a lawman, I'm a former professional boxer (2002 through 2005), a lifelong martial artist, and a pretty good carpenter. I love helping others and, to that end, I've recently started a new blog titled Righting Crime Fiction, which is intended to assist fellow writers in "getting it right" when it comes to police procedures, firearms, and fight scenes.

I love vacationing in the mountains and am especially drawn to hiking, climbing, and traversing wild rivers in anything that will float. However, no adventure is complete without my family, and family time is the highlight of my life. Whether it's a ten-day vacation, a weekend getaway, or a day spent kicking around the house, I'm happiest when I'm surrounded by my wife and kids.

I live in southeast Louisiana with my son, Brandon, daughter, Grace, step-daughter, Kate, and beautiful wife, Amanda. Our extended family includes a brown and tan German Shepherd named Kristof, a white marshmallow on legs named Linus, and five chickens that provide more eggs than we can eat.
