Über mich
Brenda Leyndyke graduated from Western Michigan University, Kalamazoo, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics Education. She has taught every age level from Preschool to Adult. It was not until Brenda’s father decided to write his autobiography that Brenda became interested in genealogy. A task of finding out where her paternal grandfather was born (Jackson, Michigan) led to discovering roots back to Colonial times. Brenda’s roots go deep in Michigan, with many ancestors settling here pre-statehood. Brenda’s eight great grandparents settled and raised a family in her home state of Michigan. This rich family history has allowed Brenda to research in the many wonderful repositories located in Michigan.
Brenda is the President of the Michigan Genealogical Council. She chairs the Program and Publicity Committee for the Calhoun County (MI) Genealogical Society and a board member of Fort Custer Historical Society, where she has been the co-organizer of the newly created library. She updated the “Research in the States-Michigan” book published by the National Genealogical Society. For the past eleven years, Brenda has written an award-winning genealogy blog, Journey to the Past, a two-time winner of Family Tree Magazine’s 40 Best Genealogy Blogs. Brenda has spoken on topics of genealogical interest at Michigan societies. She has traveled to ancestral homes throughout the Midwest and New England.
