- Über mich
- I'm an Indonesian, and although I used to and prefer to live in the Tuscan rolling hills area -- whose natives still believes in witches, trolls and the likes --, now I reside in the coastal Tuscan area, where the Etruscans used to scatter around more than 2000 years ago.
Books are my happy place. When I was still a kid, I was mostly known as very boyish. I climbed tree, rolled down the hill, swinging on tree's hanging roots [is that what you call it?] like Tarzan or Mowgli does [we lived in Borneo!],etc. Those are the things that sweet girls don't do back in my home country. By common norm, of course. However, give me a book anytime and I'd sit still and got immersed even though kids were jumping around me. That's why they also nicknamed me The Bookworm. But when I told my mom about this, with some note of pride, she merely said, "bookworms are those who love reading school books." :-( [Hey, I did love reading history books belonging to my older brothers.] In spite of this, every time I asked for Barbie, they would bring me to Book Shop, and I could choose whichever I want. Wait... there was a catch in this: The book must be thick, no comic! :-) I'd come home with a huge pile of books, a big grin on my face, and parental contentment. No, no Barbie.
Now, although I've realized that my mom's statement was something to urge me to study more, I still couldn't manage to call myself as Bookworm. I 'd just settle for Book Lover. So in love I am with books that the real quantity of books I've read can no longer be remembered.
By the way, I'm also a Goodreads and BookMooch member. (The latter is the only book similar-to-swapping site I know working here in Italy, unluckily...) - Ort
