This is not a book worth staying up late for. The story was competently written with a thriller type style. The characters were rather flat, but competent. However, the obsession of health of each character (Vegan, non-smoker, runner, not overweight) got old.

As for the story, the blurb on the back cover promised scary - however, that was a let down. By writing half the book from the perspective of the Brujas took away any element of surprise. Also, after it was shown a person doesn't always die after a posession (as apposed to bleeding out as shown in the first 25% of the story), it really took away the suspense.

As for the ending, well, it didn't make much sense from either side. Angry ghosts possessing someone (and dying if the host dies), seems like you should just leave when the fighting gets tough - as for the opossition, it seemed odd that they would be willing to take down the whole town, their family, friends, homes, etc, to get rid of a ghosts who can leave when things rough.

Either way, I stayed up to finish it. And it wasn't worth it.

But, the book is competently written. The premise is interesting. But I wasn't a fan of the unexpected new age stuff, as well as the commentary on diet and health. ( )
