Let's make this group active again

I just noticed that this group is listed as "officially dormant" because it hasn't had any activity since 2008. I was sure that some interesting conversations were bound to happen on this group. Let's give it another try.

Has anybody found any new books that they'd like to discuss here? Even if they're only sort of related?

I would definitely like to see this group active again!!

I feel like I have lots of books I would like to discuss... it's hard to know where to start. I do want to say that one of the surprising books I found was "Bird" by Rita Murphy. I wasn't expecting it to be as good as it was, or relevant at all to the theme of my book list (which was "winged people and the feeling of flying, or dream of flight") and yet it managed to be relevant, and blow me away with its haunting melancholy feeling. I feel that the author really understood what it was like to fly... and also crafted a compelling story around it... two things that are hard to find together.

Well, I also wanted to ask... what do people prefer more in a book when they are looking for otherkin content/content about their species? Do they want the book to be good, or do they want to see that it is more related to who they are? Will you put up with a bad book if it is good about your species, or will you put up with a book that is terrible about your species but a good book in general... and which do you prefer more? I notice that since the focus of my list is "books for winged people", I rate it based on the content being relevant to winged people. Not on how good the book is although that does provide some weight. But at the end of the day I feel that people coming to read my list are thirsty for stories about themselves more than anything. If you want to read a "good book" there are many on various subjects, but books that capture the feeling in your heart are hard to find.

Hello Booksofafeather!

Thanks for the book recommendation, it sounds so fascinating. Although, I cannot relate to birds myself, I find myself often admiring them when they sing, fly, socialize amongst themselves.

So the questions you ask are very good ones... although I cannot relate to it, myself, there are aspects that I would appreciate about it and therefore would probably consider it a 'good book' depending on how it has "striked" a fancy. (I think this is why there are so many book debates about what makes a 'good book,' as there as so many diverse personalities being touched by many different things.

With a typical book, I prefer a good plot, descriptive, preferably eloquent with engaging character or generally enticing. But it depends on my mood... sometimes, you just want to relax, reflect and muse. So it doesn't have to be so fast-paced or narrow. It's good to be able to 'shift minds' and diversify.

And to Therithere, thanks for bringing up the idea of reviving this section. x
