I just read a fascinating book, Women Gone Wild, in which the author Jane Futcher recounts her family's experience relocating from Marin County to a rural enclave in northern Mendocino county.

Just finished a book called The Drunken Botanist by Amy Stewart who resides in Eureka, California. It was a blast to read, and very informative. I fully intend to keep it as a reference for recipes and inspiration with earthly spirits. :) She has written other books as well. I've ordered two of them, Wicked Bugs and Wicked Plants. I love books about nature and its weird ways.

"The Eternal Conductor" by Debbie Garneau Griffin, a N Cal local writer, is an amazing novel telling a history of stories set for the most part in California and Vermont. These tales go back and forth in time, connecting actual history to fascinating characters and the home in which the author was raised. Apparently, some of the action was based on research the author did as well as discoveries made in the old house. It was worth the reading time, and I found it an involving book.
