trans romance

not sure people will see this since there isn't much activity in this group, but i'm wondering if anyone knows any romance books with trans main characters? probably there isn't enough out there to be picky but the request was ideally for a mtf main character romance with either a male or female (cis or trans). i thought maybe a safe girl to love by casey plett but that's about all i can come up with. anyone else? and thanks!

I've not tried it, but you could read Hawk's Landing by Carol Lynne. I'm going to try the Casey Plett as soon as I have time to read *anything*!

and btw, the casey plett won a lambda award for transgender fiction at this year's awards.

Oh shame. The cover of the Carol Lynne was so good I assumed it was available in physical format. I found it on Goodreads.com.

Children's lit and YA may not be what you're looking for. But for others who find this thread, there's this article from NYT that ran on June 6, 2015. It lists a number of authors and titles.

I'm broke right now pre-holiday, so I'm delaying buying Nevada and instead have downloaded Being Emily by Rachel Gold from my local library. Will report back in a couple of weeks.

So Being Emily was interesting, and sort of a romance, as the trans woman at the heart of the story had to negotiate coming out to her girlfriend. The writing style isn't entirely successful, as the story is told from two points of view, one being in the first person, the other the third person, an odd choice which doesn't come off.

It's a very American book, to my British eyes, as a lot of time is spent exploring religious attitudes to Trans issues. It works OK, but could have been so much more powerful.

i've heard such good things about being emily that i'm a little disappointed that you found it just ok. i was hoping to love it when i eventually read it. i think it was her first book, so maybe her second is better. (i forget what it's called but it's about a trans woman in a college dorm.) the pov choice is certainly a weird one, as you said, and i'm curious why she wrote it that way...

Transformed San Francisco is a slightly less 'literature' book with Charley a trans man as one of the main characters. There's also a lesbian police officer in it if I recall. It's not perfect, but I liked it when I read it as an ARC.
