This thread is for discussion of The Illuminations by Andrew O'Hagan (no spoilers, please).

Read it and posted the review on my thread. Quite disliked it after the first two parts and then it grew on me. But knowing I'll have forgotten about it again soon, it's 3.5 stars for me.
Compared to many LL books I read in the last years, it's an absolutely okay nominee. SL? I still hope there are some really great ones to come.

Read it and for the main, really enjoyed it. I did not write a review. Initially I found the parts that take place in Afghanistan to be a bit jarring, but it all came together nicely in the end. Fine by me if makes the shortlist. 4.5 stars for me.

I finished The Illuminations today. A beautifully written and enjoyable read, but it doesn't strike me as a very memorable novel.

I thought it was beautifully written. It reminded me of The Green Road in its tone, although I do think that The Green Road was a more successful book. The illuminations had a quiet strength to it and the writing was very fine.
