I've just arrived in Columbus for a conference, so I wanted to see if it might be possible to meet up with some LT-ers while I'm here.

I would suggest next Saturday evening (August 6) for a dinner meet-up, since it's on a weekend and after the conference has ended, but I'm open to other times too. The conference doesn't actually start until tomorrow afternoon, and it should be possible to fit in a dinner or (very quick) lunch near the convention center even while the conference is in progress. Let me know what you think!

I'm in! The 6th works fine for me.

Yay! Do you have any ideas for a location, preferably somewhere near or easily accessible from the convention center?

I have to admit, I don't go into Columbus much, so I don't have suggestions. I'll do a little research, though.

Thanks! I also realized it doesn't have to be that accessible from the convention center; I can always just take an Uber to wherever.

I'd love to come, but I already have plans for Saturday. Have a great time!

We could always do a different day! I'm pretty sure there's no conference stuff on Friday evening either.

>6 aktakukac: Yes, what day would be good for you? I'm flexible!

I'm fairly certain that I won't be able to make it due to car problems.

May I humbly suggest The Indian Oven? Easily the very best Indian food I've ever had and it remains my favorite restaurant in Columbus.

Or, right across from the convention center is The Japanese Steakhouse, which is also excellent:

Or, if you want to check out German Village, which is pretty cool and also pretty close to one of my very favorite bookshops in the history of ever, you could go to Schmidt's:

(The bookshop: The Book Loft - http://www.bookloft.com/ )

Or this place, in The Short North, which is totally walkable from downtown, and is run by one of my former Latin students:

Oh, oh! And while you're right downtown at the convention center, do try to find time to check out The North Market, which is amazing (it would be a great place to grab lunch):

Apologies for being bossypants. I hope you have a great time!

The suggestions are definitely very welcome, thank you!

My first instinct was to go with one of the walkable ones, so either the Japanese Steakhouse or Brassica Short North. On the other hand, Indian food is one of my favourites.... Such hard decisions. I'll be happy with any of these places :)

And I'm glad to hear that I seem to be generally on the right track with sightseeing so far—we managed to visit the North Market for lunch yesterday (and I'm sure I'll be back!), and the friends who picked us up at the airport took us to the Book Loft before the hotel ;)

>11 _Zoe_: Oh, I'm so glad that you made it to the Book Loft! Amazing place, isn't it?

>12 scaifea: Yup, it is quite the experience! And I loved the garden entryway.

>10 scaifea: Thanks for the suggestions! No need to apologize.

>11 _Zoe_: Indian food is one of my favorites, too, but I'd be happy at any of them, I'm sure.

My plans for Saturday might change, so I might be able to make it after all. I'll know more tomorrow.

Okay, so let's go ahead with plans for Saturday. Maybe at 6:00, at the Indian place, since that seems to have the most interest?

(The time is completely arbitrary, and no one expressed a really strong preference about the location either, but I figure it's good to offer a concrete plan even if we end up changing it.)

Sounds good -- I'll plan on that, but I'm fine if the plans change.

It looks like it will be a small meetup, but we'll still have fun :). I think one of my colleagues from this conference may also join us, so we can try to convert her to LT :P

_Zoe_ I had fun meeting you this evening!

Also, scaifea thanks for the restaurant recommendation -- it was really good!

It was a really nice meetup! I'll post the photo eventually.

And I have to second the thanks for the restaurant recommendation. I especially appreciated it after having some disappointing Indian food at another place; this one restored my faith in Ohio cuisine.

Oh, yay! I'm so glad you liked it! It is my very favorite Indian place. It used to be a hole-in-the-wall joint just north of campus, when I started grad school and first discovered it, but then they moved to their current location and I'm so glad that they're still doing well. The owner is a very cool guy.

The photo is posted over on my thread in the 75-book challenge group. I'd repost it here, but I'm on my phone right now.

Oh wow, so sorry I missed this...I live about 16 miles SE of Columbus and would have loved to meet up!

16 miles SE of Columbus? Oh dear, that sounds alarmingly close to me. I live in Logan, but visit Lancaster somewhat regularly, which is about 30 miles outside of central Columbus, according to Google Maps.

I live in Pickerington and work in Lancaster. Know Logan well as my grandsons go there for archery meets. Don't be alarmed! LOL
