What is your initial provisional rating? Why?

I'll start off with a 3.5 since I do like the author's writing style and it is still early in the book.

I think I'll risk a 3.5 start, too. Some very strong characterisation going on, plus an interesting plot - is little Mike really HIV positive...?

I would. I wasn't sure she was kidding. If she had HIV when he was born than it is possible that is could be infected too.

I'll start with a 3.5. I'm going to say no on the HIV because Erika doesn't need any more problems.

I'm also going to start with 3.5 stars. Great characters.
I'd say Ivy believes Mike is HIV +, but perhaps he's not--I don't see Ivy as the sort to take the kids to the doctor.

I think I will start off with a conservative 3.25 but first impressions that it will go higher.

I won't rock the boat...3.5 but I believe I gave it higher the first time around,

I'm starting at 3.25 'til we get more into the storyline
