Why did you think both her mother and father were so worried about Linda?

Linda was mentally disturbed so they never knew what was going to come out of her mouth.

She knew lots of family secrets and they couldn't be sure what she would say.

She was certainly a wild card. Who knew what secrets she would come up with and if they would be true or not. Life with her must be interesting.

I think her mother may genuinely have had concerns for Linda's welfare (while also worrying what accusations of cat-killing might be made against David if Linda was pushed to breakdown); but Simon's motivations were purely selfish: he knew Linda was the weak link in his machinations to protect his good name. What a family!

I agree-Mom was worried for two reasons. Linda's own well-being and fear Linda would spill the beans on the family.
Simon was only worried she'd give up the secrets. I didn't get the impression he cared about her at all.
