If the ship was built with lots of metal, the magnetic forces could have pulled it under the water.

I saw The Philadelphia Experiment several years ago where the ship disappeared into hyperspace as a result of being caught in an experiment that was going on to make battleships invisible. It kinda reminded me of that. Several of the crew ended up 20 or so years into the future.

I thought perhaps the ship had been accidentally caught up in the experiment and was subsequently lost, but second thoughts would suggest that the ship was actually 'involved' in the strange occurrence.
I like Carol's reference to the Philadelphia Experiment; perhaps the missing ship was the epicentre of the experiment/occurrence?

Interesting comment Carol >3 Carol420: about The Philadelphia Exoeriment. Made me think about The Time Tunnel! Will be very interested to find out what has happened to the ship.

I loved The Philadelphia Experiment and even owned a VCR copy. I'm not sure what happened to the ship but I should definitely find a copy of the movie.

>6 Olivermagnus: I had it on VCR also but bought a DVD copy at a yard sale for $1.00. My lucky day!!!

>3 Carol420: that's what I initially thought as well. Maybe an early version of that experiment since the Philadelphia Experiment was supposed to have happened around 1943 and the prologue was 1901 (I think)
