Reel called Will naïve, would you agree?

I would say yes in the area of expecting his father to have open arms for him after not contacting him for over 20 years.

Naïve at the time (he was only 18 after all). Not got beyond his feelings at that time to analyse the situation with Laura from an adult's perspective.
I don't think I'd call the man naïve now.

I agree with >3 Sergeirocks: that Will certainly is not naive now. He was a kid when he left home and he thought that Laura had abandoned him like his mother had done previously. I don't think Will had any preconceived ideas about his father welcoming him in any way. He knew how set in his ways and bitter his father was but he felt an obligation to try and help him. Family obligations is a southern thing that few of the rest of the country understands. The father can beat the kid twice a day for it's entire life but if that father is threatened that kid/adult will fight to the death to protect him.

I think Will at 18 was totally different from the Will we know. He was hurt and abandoned by two women he thought loved him.

I think Will still shows some naïve features around relationships, partially b cause he never really seems to have had any until Julie and Jessica.
