A thought provoking and reflective novel about the lives of individuals whose stories cross at a crucial time in their lives. The background is the Amish religion and lifeways but though important to characters decisions it does not distract from the plot development and pulling in of readers no matter their beliefs into the story and caring about the outcome of the connections of the characters. A key connector for all is their love and interest in bird watching and birds, Michal keeps careful records of the birds sighted which is shared with reader. The main characters are Ben Zook, who finds his lifework birds and writing by writing books about birds and returns to Stony Ridge from which he had fled to find and capture photographs and information on the rare elusive rare White-winged Tern. Ben hires Micah Weaver as his local guide. Penny Weaver, Micah sister. Is the unifier and inspiration for the characters and the one who follows her Amish faith. Also it was Penny who introduced Ben to birding many years ago but was it Ben? The other character rounds the plot is Natille who must make important life decisions and receives support from the main and supporting characters.
Overall, a book that will grab you and not want to put down till you see the characters life decisions and interactions with one another. The reader feels they are part of the story. Highly Recommended
