Helenoel’s fibery stuff in 2022

I have not been very active in this group but want to try this way to keep track and share. I have been a knitter most of my life, added spinning and weaving with occasional bursts of embroidery and other dabbling. See you on the boards!

My husband gave me a replica of a historic tape loom for Christmas. I got a warp on it and started to play.

I do narrowwork weaving too and that's exciting - I have been using an extremely simple frame or sometimes going backstrap, but I'd love to get a proper tape loom. What style is yours?

>5 melannen: It is a replica of an historic one made by a local woodworker from plans that were published some years ago. A box with warp reel, fixed rigid heddle and a reel for finished tape.

I spent this weekend in an online workshop on flax spinning. Instructor in Austria, participants (this was English language) in US, UK and Canada. We came away with much improved spinning techniques and lots of general knowledge. My samples are small and need more processing to be soft linen thread. I plan to save these as “before” examples and spin up more beginner yard to process fully.
Knitting and weaving may take a back seat for a while.

That sounds like an interesting workshop. My local fiber guild is made up of knitters, weavers, and spinners. Actually, many of us are "bi-craftual". I was a knitter when I joined, and recently learned to weave. I haven't taken up spinning yet. I look forward to seeing what you do with it.

>9 dudes22: me too, Betty. I only learned it recently and have been looking for an excuse to use it!!

I guess i am then multi-craftual. Except for knitting which is always with me, i have over many years dabbled in spinning, weaving, crochet, embroidery, macrame, quilting and probably a few others. I hope to get serious about weaving when i retire, and spinning feeds weaving, so will stay high on the list.
