The Railway Children by E. Nesbit 1999
A delightful book that is aimed what we would now call the “tween” market, but this was written in 1905. It follows the adventures of three children who move from an upmarket life in London, to an impoverished one in the countryside, living in a cottage beside a railway line.
Something for adults to read and remember when life was simpler, or for children to read and enjoy.
The xv + 188 page book is beautifully illustrated with eight full colour paintings and some chapter ending line drawings by Inga Moore. It is introduced by Helen Cresswell and is bound in white cloth printed with a wrap-around colour picture by Inga Moore. The endpapers are plain white and the dark green slipcase measures 23.7x16.6cm.
