Which authors with last names starting with Q, X and Z should be considered for LOA? Why? Because this sounds like fun to me.

um, Zorro?

Roger Zelazny is already represented in American Science Fiction: Four Classic Novels 1960-1966, but I imagine he could support his own volume if the press were so inclined.

Zelazny has lots of great stuff, but the entire Amber series in a 2-volume set would be fantastic. That's not likely to happen.

What's more surprising to me, now that I think of it, is that LOA has no Y authors. Richard Yates, Laurence Yep, Daniel Yergin, I'm sure other people can come up with other names.

>7 Podras.: why do you think this won't happen?

>9 A_B: I loved Roger Zelazny, but I don't think much of his writing rises to the level of sophistication that LOA looks for. I don't consider myself an expert in this and could very well be wrong. In any case, two authors I would give priority to over Zelazny are Harlan Ellison and Gene Wolfe, but since neither of their names start with X, Y, or Z, you didn't hear it from me.

X: Seems that Malcolm X’s autobiography along with speeches and interviews could be a significant volume.
Y: Everyman’s Library already has a Richard Yates volume with the best stuff. Hiyase Yamamoto’s Seventeen Syllables is a classic but would have to be supplemented with early journalism and letters. Probably not enough. We will have to wait to see how Hanya Yanigahara’s career goes.
Z: We can’t claim Zola or Zweig, but perhaps Nell Zink will make the grade one day. She’s an award winner as it is. Jury would be out on Gabriella Zevin as of now.
