I assume if you're coming here, you might have a preference for Jake over Edward. On an interview with Stephenie Meyers, she said that, like, .05% of fans are Jake fans (over Edward fans, or liking them both).
When I was a children's librarian, we had a tally sheet up behind my desk. It said "Edward or Jake", and anyone could come up and add their tally to one side or the other. I was the only one who had put a tally in the Jake column, but that was out of 10 or 20 people, most of them being high school girls. I'm 29. :)
My preference is based on my preference for temperature, not liking to be left in the dark or talked down to, mostly.

Edward of course. I'd always choose tall dark and mysterious over someone who overheats. Plus I don't like camping or outdoorsy things, both of which I associate with Jacob :)

Jake and Edward are running neck in neck in my mind, but if I had to choose one I would choose Jacob because he is totally just trying to get the girl he wants. He's in love, he can't help it! Don't get me wrong, Edward is totally awesome, but he really needs to not be so over protective and such a jerk at times. If my boyfriend was like that I would dump him so fast! Faster than Edward can Run! Jacob rox in Breaking Dawn so much better than Edward too. Edward is so caught up in his emotions he can't even help Bella!!!!!!
GO JACOB!!!!!
GO JACOB!!!!!

Jacob has a spectacular Jackass Moment in, um, the entire second half of Eclipse. Sexual assault is not cool. But I can forgive him, for I figure maybe he was just trying to see if maybe Bella would like him better if he were a FRACTION as much of a douche as Edward, since apparently she likes dudes who commit crimes against her.
Conversely, Edward has some Non-Jackass-Moments, like most of the 2nd and 3rd books in Breaking Dawn. But overall, I pretty firmly believe that Jacob is adorable and Edward needs his ass thrown in Azkaban for dating abuse (and also burglary, forgery, trespassing, property damage or whatever you want to call disabling someone else's car, and invasions of privacy).

Yeah, I wasn't exactly comfortable with Jacob's forced kiss. I'd like to believe that thecynicalromance is right, and he was just trying to be more like Edward. But yeah - not cool.
A lighter version of Jacob-trying-to-get-in-Bella's-pants is when he's used as the heating element in the tent. There it's more funny, or at least Bella's asleep for some of it. I'm not a big fan of the smugness, but they *are* teenagers, where smugness rules.

NO! you guys are all crazy if you think Jacob is better than Edward. Edward would do anything for Bella if it made her happy Jacob would just make jokes about it and say no. And, even though jacob is a werewolf and edward is a vampire edward isn't a jerk to jake. What's up with the kiss anyway, doesn't he understand bella is already in love. Jake is a loser.

No, Edward would do anything for Bella to keep her "safe." He doesn't care about making her happy in the least, and he doesn't have an ounce of respect for her.
Why are you concerned about Jacob not understanding that Bella's in love, but not concerned about Edward not understanding that Bella is an autonomous human being with a brain and natural human rights, like the one to live her own life? Is being in love more important to you than being viewed as a person? Go hole up with your co-dependent fantasies and outdated gender stereotypes and get off the Internet; there are thinking people here.

In the books Edward is such a superior prig to Bella that I just want to smack him. He's always right, he always knows best...SMACK! Jacob is a jerk in Eclipse, but he's trying to give Bella what she seems to want. Plus, he is warm and toasty. I will admit, though, in the movie, I can see the Edward appeal. Still want to smack him, though.
