The Helper Badges on the Statistics page are a great idea. I have several badges already, some on the gold star level. There is an explanation available at http://www.librarything.com/wiki/index.php/Helper_badges

I am posting here to ask about a bronze badge for 5 or more Local bookstores. If I post more Local bookstores, when will the badge appear? I added three bookstores today, and I am sure I have at least two more, but no badge has appeared.

Beyond that, perhaps the bookstores have to be in my local area? I would expect any bookstore to be sufficient, and I have just added two elsewhere in Pennsylvania.

They get redone every night, not immediately—sorry :)

They can be any bookstore.

That's plenty fast for me.

I hope that posting here will encourage other members to contribute. I find that many members have no badges at all, even if they have thousands of books posted. On the other hand, some have several badges. Perhaps that is the way with many groups, a few do the work, a few more look on, and many reap the benefits.

Different people are interested in different things. People who contribute "only" books are contributing just as much as people who contribute to other things in the form of book data.

I love the helper badges, but I think it's not a way to judge the participation of other members.

Much agreed.

My posting is to encourage participation, whatever way members may find to do so. Having read the scoring on badges, I see that some of them are beyond my ability to ever do.

Reviews, descriptions, and just adding books are all worthy ways to participate in LT.

People should just do what makes them happy.
