A BOOK-LOVER'S PARADISE
The slower pace of Virginia makes BOOK HUNTING HERE A DREAM! We offer rooms, rooms and rooms of books that you may browse at your leisure. NO HARD SELLING ! We invite you in, explain the layout and leave you alone for hours. We're glad to help, but book hunting is a personal thing for most folks and they like to do it at their leisure. Read, discuss, chat -- even take a nap if you like!

IN A SLEEPY LITTLE HAMLET IN THE BLUE RIDGE
Our shop is located on the James River at the southern tip of the SHENANDOAH VALLEY in the tiny town of BUCHANAN, VA. It's the only place that we know of where the Alleghany and the Blue Ridge Mountains almost touch! We're about 1,500 contented souls and about a half-dozen old crabs.
We stock some 35,000 books with a heavy emphasis on VIRGINIA, CIVIL WAR and VIRGINIA AUTHORS -- especially Mary Johnston, Ellen Glasgow and John Fox, Jr. Ms. Johnston grew up in Buchanan. We sell most of her titles and exhibit all 27.

We are located in a 14-ROOM VICTORIAN HOUSE that was probably once a mansion. Books are on the bottom floor and bank building next door; family on the top, and warehouse two doors down the street. Hours are noon to 6 pm Monday through Saturday. (If I'm not to be found, simply walk around the house; I'm probably out back working in the flowers or doing the endless chores that come with an old house.) FOR WEIRD HOURS, call ahead at (540) 254-3200. We are always reachable on the Internet -- fireside@rbnet.com. We also stock several thousand pieces of sheet music and probably that many magazines.
