Dirk Quigby is stuck in a dead end job at a second rate marketing company when he gets an offer for a dream job where he gets to travel and write about his experiences. The catch? His new boss is the Devil, who wants a travel guide to all the different afterlives of all the different religions. Hell is getting overcrowded, you see, and most people aren't aware of their many heavenly options. Author E.E. King skewers all religions equally, and the sad but true part is that the most bizarre statements are truths taken directly from the various religions with Dirk's hilarious commentary helpfully italicized so that you can tell the truth from fiction. If poking fun at religion offends you, then this book is not for you. On the other hand, if aspects of your religion have ever struck you as faintly ridiculous, then you may really enjoy it. The author herself says it best: "This book intends no disrespect toward any persons of a true and abiding faith. On the other hand, it intends no respect either." "Impish and delightful--a hilarious Zagat's Guide to Heaven!"--Ray Bradbury "A fantastical, profound, hilarious and rollicking good ride through the heavens and hells of the afterlife! A wonderful book."--Margaret Cho Hell's too full, so the Devil hires ad man Dirk Quigby to pen a travel guide enticing travelers to different afterlives: Hindu, Catholic, Protestant (that one's got a lot of subdivisions), Scientologist, and more. Instead of writing a boffo bestseller, Dirk unites all religions in a common goal: kill Dirk. E.E. King grew up in one of those tolerant households that don't force religion down kids' throats. This is the result. Keine Bibliotheksbeschreibungen gefunden. |
