The area is so well-known for its deadly inhabitants that Smoke doesn’t let Sally accompany him until he goes and gets the lay of the land.
Once there, Smoke does what he does best, and that is stand up against the men who want to take from Jenny what isn’t theirs. The three men orchestrating the deadly threats are Major Cosgrove, Fosburn and Biggers. When Smoke begins his strategic fight against these men and the killers they hire, the air is about to turn blue with gun smoke! The more men this trio hires, thinking they will take out Smoke, get Jenny’s property and more, the more they will discover that they have met their match!
Smoke Jensen is a fan favorite, and this story really is my favorite so far in the Last Mountain Man Series. The way Smoke takes the fight to those bent on destruction and death is exciting. I enjoy too the way Sally has confidence in her husband, Smoke. They have a wonderful marriage and Sally stands by her man from start to finish.
When Smoke goes to the aid of his niece, he takes no prisoners. The outlaws or cowboys are given a choice to either pack up and leave or stay and be buried. Smoke has no backup in him, and Sally doesn’t either. Sally can be a lady and dress classy when the occasion arises, or she straps on her .45 and grabs a rifle when it is needed. I highly recommend reading this story as it is pure action from start to finish. Read the series in order or read them as you wish. No matter how you read them they will entertain you for hours!
