I'd probably give this 3.5 stars, but I'm rounding up. This was a super quick read; I finished it in half a day. The beginning of this book had me, hook, line and sinker. It was heartbreaking, yeah, but it was like ripping a band-aid off: quick and, therefore, less painful. It was the middle and the end of the book that really ripped my heart out and put it through the wringer (no tears, though. just a solid brick in my stomach and an iron fist squeezing my heart. you know. no big.) OK. So. Griffin. *sigh* Oh, sweet Griffin. I loved him through a great deal of the book (and he was who I was rooting for during the majority of the book). However, there were some things that really rubbed me the wrong way, and, unfortunately, we didn't get to see him make amends for ANY of those. I wished he'd stood up for Annie with his mom...with Gia...and for the love of God, get those damn kids out of the house. Annie had some hang-ups, too. She certainly wasn't perfect, and a lot of her choices wouldn't have been mine. And, in fact, had me ready to throw my book across the room. And Nick? Well, he's just an asshole. And that's all I have to say about that. The feel of this book greatly reminded me of a Marisa de los Santos book. Did I get my HEA? Yeah, but I had to work damn hard for it. So long as you go into this thinking it's not going to be a lighthearted, funny book, I think you'll enjoy it much more than I did. I loved The First Husband by Laura Dave. It portrayed marriages so realistically and yet with humor, quirkiness and love. Annie Adams feels content with her job, her wonderful dog and her marriage until her husband drops a bomb. He is moving out. She really doesn't know how to cope with the changes in her life. She depends on her best friend who is her first husband's sister for help. Life is complicated and she really wants it to be simple. I enjoyed the author’s portrayal of the complexities of life. I don't want to go into the details of the books. I just think that if you like clear and direct writing with quirkiness, you will love this book. It is a definite page turner. It is absolutely one of the best books to read when you are trying to survive a nasty sore throat and cold. I recommend this book to all my friends and thank a friend for her review that made me smile and want to read it. keine Rezensionen | Rezension hinzufügen

HTML:"A fresh, funny take on the search for a soulmate." â??People A savvy, page-turning novel about a woman torn between her husband and the man she thought she'd marry by the author of the New York Times Bestseller and Reese's Book Club Pick, The Last Thing He Told Me Annie Adams is days away from her thirty-second birthday and thinks she has finally found some happiness. She visits the world's most interesting places for her syndicated travel column and she's happily cohabiting with her movie director boyfriend Nick in Los Angeles. But when Nick comes home from a meeting with his therapist (aka "futures counselor") and announces that he's taking a break from their relationship so he can pursue a woman from his past, the place Annie had come to call home is shattered. Reeling, Annie stumbles into her neighborhood bar and finds Griffin-a grounded, charming chef who seems to be everything Annie didn't know she was looking for. Within three months, Griffin is Annie's husband and Annie finds herself trying to restart her life in rural Massachusetts. A wry observer of modern love, Laura Dave "steers clear of easy answers to explore the romantic choices we make" (USA Today). Her third novel is packed with humor, empathy, and psychological insight about the power of love and ho Keine Bibliotheksbeschreibungen gefunden. |

Really enjoyed this one! It's fairly short at only 244 pages. It's the first novel I've read by Laura Dave and I will definitely be reading more from her.

"It was right there on his face. How it looked when we listened to our fear. Our uncertainty. When we let it be the thing that guides us. How, even if it may masquerade as safety, it almost always, ultimately, does more damage than figuring out how to do something greater, braver. Something bold." ( )
