Clever story different from norm for genre, but the reader must allow for periodic suspensions of disbelief (okay, this story is just a little too 'Cinderella' at times). When you're in the mood to read a longer (320 pgs), light romance story with a quirky storyline, this is the perfect book. ( )

Maddie Copeland was wary of men. However, one of her best friends was an elderly man named James Madison Sr. For the last three summers James had rented one of the run down cottages on the beach of Hanscomb Harbor, Connecticut. He was a good customer at her shop, Maddie's Gifts,and Maddie loved his sense of humor. James even made Maddie promise to have his body cremated and his ashes poured into the hollowed-out belly of a hideous, red-glazed, ceramic lobster clock instead of an urn. Maddie honored that wish but she had no idea that he had named her in his will.
Jame's grandson, Hank thinks Maddie is a gold digger who got lucky when James died. When they meet, he treats her accordingly, she finds herself feeling sorry for the way his grandfather ambushed both of them, but she visibly resents his behavior towards her.
Hank no choice but to do as the will stipulated. Unless he spent six weeks away from New York (in Hanscomb Harbor) with no phone, fax, computer, or anything, his company and all his inheritance went to Maddie.
It seems Madison Sr was matching up Hank and Maddie from the grave, like their own guardian angel ... or devil.
This book is a delightful romp, it is full of laugh out loud humor, the best kind. ( )
