I'm an ultra runner myself but by no means the level of Marshall Ulrich so I thought this book would be interesting. The main story of this book is Ulrich's run across the U.S. at age 57 and trying to break the record for the fastest crossing. Trying to make something like running 60 miles a day for 57 days is very difficult. Ulrich talks a lot about his relationships with his family and race crew. It always seems to flip flopping and conteversial which really wears on the reader. I find these runners to be obsessive and literally a little full of themselves. It wasn't a great book but just OK. In his dramatic race from San Francisco to New York, Marshall Ulrich clocked the third-fastest trans-American crossing to date and set new records in multiple divisions. He shares the gritty backstory, in Running on Empty, including his brushes with death, run-ins with the police, and the excruciating punishments he endured at the mercy of his maxed-out body. He reaches back nearly thirty years, when the death of the woman he loved drove him to begin running and the realization dawned that he felt truly alive only when pushed to the limits.--[book jacket] Keine Bibliotheksbeschreibungen gefunden. |
