The book is good - very good. The various styles and steps are explained carefully and with detailed attention to points usually glossed over. Basically, it is an exceptional text for millinery study.
But.
But... it does assume you have the tools - specifically, hat blocks - for this. Hat blocks are (at least in Australia) expensive ($150 plus postage for a single block in 2015), difficult to source, and if you just want to 'try out' millinery this is probably more than most want to spend unless you already wear a lot of hats yourself and regard it as an investment.
So, as a textbook/studyguide this is very good indeed.
As an introduction for the casually interested hobbyist ... a coffee-table inspiration and hints, unless you can find a cheap block or two.
