Keine aktuelle Diskussion zu diesem Buch. this was a good quick read that i quite enjoyed. it's basically about the philosophy department of a low grade college/university. a murder takes place and almost everyone on staff is a suspect as it happened in a locked area for the professors. again, i really quite liked it and it's an easy, fast read. Who killed Niles Norman, the new head of the philosophy department? When Norman is found murdered in his office, Liza Ryder, a professor of philosophy, offers the police her help. She's worried they won't take academic motives seriously. And she also investigates her colleagues herself. Was the murderer the dotty old hippie? The vindictive former department head? The prodigiously incompetent administrative assistant? Liza is horrified by how many motives she finds. Extortion. Deception. Secrets kept since grad school. Will anything be left of the philosophy department when the investigation is over? (source: http://www.smashwords.com/books/view/59642) I got this book trough Librarything a while ago and had to put it away due to problems with my e-reader. The story was so catchy though I tried several times to read it on a computer, but there is nothing relaxing in reading a book on a computer. When I finally got a new e-reader this was the first book I stuffed on it and read. The book reads like Cluedo. As soon as Liza starts her own investigation you try to fill in the blanks too. There are a lot of possible suspects and in the end it is still a big surprise who killed Niles Norman. The only 'but' I had with this book that for a non native speaker of the English language there are a lot of 'difficult' words. Therefore the English version will not be accessible for everybody who reads English books every now and than. If you like a good game of Cluedo and your English is better than the average YA level, you should give this book a try. This book was well written ( I learned a lot of new words!) and highly entertaining, particularly if you have spent time in a college setting. The characters are quite colorful, and there are a few tributes to Agatha Christie. The only reason I don't give it 5 stars is because the ending, while exciting, seemed quite rushed. It seems possible March was on a deadline and needed to wrap things up quickly, which is so disappointing because the characters were so much fun to spend time with! I received a copy of Murder in the Philosophy Department through Librarything Giveways. While I enjoyed the read, it was not really my type of mystery. It was much more a Murder She Wrote type of mystery than the fast paced, plot twisting murder mysteries that I prefer. In addition, the academic setting and the academic charachters she uses are not ones that I have encountered in higher education which was a bit of a drawback for me as well. With that said, Ms. March's writing is excellent and her characters are well thought out. I enjoyed reading this old-fashioned crime novel. It made me think of the crime novels from the 40´s and 50´s. Lovely language, interesting characters, witty, and an interesting plot. I really liked the setting, her description of the academic world is very funny. It was also very nice not having to read a lot of gruesome details of horrible mutilations, and bloody murder. keine Rezensionen | Rezension hinzufügen
