This story continues from the first book in the series titled, The Drifter. Frank Morgan son, Conrad, has been taken captive and the villains who have done the deed are men who have a grudge against Frank. The gang members are following two leaders Ned Pine and Vic Vanbergen who are responsible for not just the kidnapping but these two are also responsible for other trouble brought to Frank.
Frank wants to have a relationship with his son, Conrad Browning, but it’s going to take time. So, Frank seeks to find a place where he can live with space and be left alone. Yet every time Frank begins to put down roots, someone decides to come after the gunfighter just because they want to become notorious. Frank befriends a young man and tries to teach him how to shoot as well as pan for gold. Their friendship isn’t just temporary but Frank hopes for a while to come.
