Focusing on Corrie and Roy, who are receiving odd postcards and then a fruit basket, asking if they regret the past. Turns out their first baby, born when Corrie was in college, was adopted and she found them. The romance with Grace and Cliff is back on and the medical clinic opens with Corrie's daughter Linette as a PA ( )

This isn't one of my favorite in the series. I have very little interest in Allison and Anson's story. Also there are so many characters, I'm forgetting who is who. I read the previous 1-4 but it has been a while. Maybe should include a list of characters. ( )

Less than best writing but enough for a person to want to find out what happens. Cliff and Grace get married by eloping which surprised me, Cliff's son still looking for money, Roy finds out it is the daughter given up for adoption writing the postcards which was their only guess, Linette does decide the stuttering cowboy is better than a doctor, Rachel gives in to loving Nate the Navy rich kid, bedridden Maryellen has money problems causing stress for Jon, lighthouse burns down. Each short chapter about some character. ( )

Finished 50 Harbor Street this morning....will continue on with the series until all read. Good series and interesting small town character interactions. Debbie Macomber is the best at writing about small town people and places! ( )

I love the Cedar Cove series written by Debbie Macomber.

Each book continues from the previous book, so it is best to read them in order. I did find a lot of repetition with the books but I understand why...because about one book comes out per year, so the author is reminding you what happened before.

I was lucky enough to find this series and purchase the books used online well after the series was written. In fact, I have only had to wait for the last two books to come out.

I highly recommend purchasing the whole set and start reading! ( )

50 Harbor Street is the 5th in Debbie Macomber’s Cedar Cove series. Once again we join the residents of Cedar Cove in their daily lives. The mystery of the anonymous postcards being sent to the McAfees is finally solved as someone from their past returns to their lives. Olivia’s determination to get jack fit backfires on her. Newly married Charlotte Jefferson-Rhodes and her family have encounters with her new stepson, David. Grace’s relationship with Cliff Harding continues on a rollercoaster ride. Maryellen and Jon Bowman run into financial difficulties. Linette McAfee goes on the date her mother won for her, with Cal Washburn, and has to make a choice. Rachel Pendergast, of Get Nailed fame, reconsiders her relationship with sailor Nate Olsen when she learns of his family background. Allison Cox takes up with a young man who looks like a bad boy. And finally, a tragedy befalls Justine and Seth Gunderson. As usual, Macomber solves some mysteries, tantalises the reader with further cliff-hangers, and dispenses small doses of wisdom and romance along the way. Another enjoyable read. ( )

This is one of my favorites of the series so far. I really liked the mysterious cards and such but was hoping it to be a bit juicier than what it turned out to be. I love that we go back and 'visit' with characters from past books, and its like you are living down the street and you are a part of their community. Was so nervous for the Randall's! David Rhodes character is also introduced, and as much as I dislike him, I think he will be a great villain and I loved hearing about the things he was doing. Great read! ( )

50 Harbor Street has Olivia and Jack having a big scare. Grace and Cliff are having a bumpy relationship. Maryellen and Jon are having trouble with her pregnancy. Allison is getting mixed up with a bad boy from school. All the books in the series are just about all cut from the same cookie cutter. ( )

50 Harbor Street (Cedar Cove series - Book 5) by Debbie Macomber

(Audio book from the Library)

Synopsis:

Corrie McAfee
50 Harbor Street Cedar Cove, Washington

Dear Listener,
Considering that I'm married to Cedar Cove's private investigator, you might think I enjoy mysteries. But I don't - especially when they involve us! Roy and I have been receiving anonymous postcards and messages asking if we "regret the past." We don't know what they mean…

On a more positive note, we're both delighted that our daughter, Linette, has moved to Cedar Cove to work at the new medical clinic. A while ago I attended the humane society's "Dog and Bachelor Auction," where I bought her a date with Cal Washburn, who works at Cliff Harding's horse farm. Unfortunately Linette is less enthusiastic about this date than I am.

Speaking of Cliff, the romance between him and Grace Sherman is back on. But that's only one of the many interesting stories here in Cedar Cove. So why don't you drop by for a coffee at my husband's office on Main Street or our house on Harbor and I'll tell you everything that's new!

Corrie

Thoughts:

Debbie Macomber is one of my favorite authors and the Cedar Cove series is my favorite series by Debbie. The 5th book in the Cedar Cove series, 50 Harbor Street was continuing story of all of our favorite characters. Cliff and Grace, Olivia and Jack, Corrie and Roy and many others. This particular book focuses on the story of Corrie and Roy and some mysterious postcards and gift baskets they have been receiving from an unknown person. The notes aren't threatening, but they elude to the fact that Roy may have some regrets from his past that he needs to address.

Macomber has a way of making her characters come to life. She uses a small town community to show her characters as they go to work, have relationships and go about their everyday activities. Her characters are the people we see in our own communities everyday. The Librarian at the Public Library, owners of the local restaurant or a quaint bed and breakfast. The local judge and the editor of the newspaper. These are all people that we can identify with. Macomber creates not only great love stories but also a great story of typical Northwest community. Readers will smile and cry with the characters as they become a continuing part of the Cedar Cove Story.

I can't say enough about the honest and wholesome writing that Debbie Macomber does. She is a great writer who has many more stories to tell. Her books are heartwarming and full of love and friendship. They are light, easy reads with great romance and wonderful characters.

The first nine books in the Cedar Cove series, including 50 Harbor Street are available now from your favorite bookseller. The 10th book will be released soon.

I am giving this one 5 out of 5 apples from my book bag!

Someone is sending anonymous postcards to Corrie and Roy McAfee who live at "50 Harbor Street" in Cedar Cove, Washington. Roy is a private investigator who initially thinks the postcards refer to a past case of his, but he soon suspects otherwise. Their daughter Linette recently moved to Cedar Cove to work at the new health center. She is attracted to Dr. Chad Timmons, but much to her dismay, while he doesn't seem interested in her, ranch worker Cal Washburn is. Other residents in Cedar Cove have their own problems and worries. Judge Olivia Lockhart Griffin worries about her husband's weight and eating habits and pushes him to exercise with disastrous consequences. Olivia's mother Charlotte recently married Ben Rhodes and is pleased when Ben's son David reaches out to her, but Ben warns her that David may not be what he seems to be. Navy wife Cecilia Randall is pregnant, but having lost a baby daughter shortly after giving birth, she is very nervous about losing this baby and it doesn't help that her husband Ian is at sea. Cecilia isn't the only one worried about her pregnancy, Maryellen Bowman is pregnant and having complications that may force her husband Jon to make a painful decision.

"50 Harbor Street" is a good soap opera like book. Debbie Macomber is a good storyteller who creates characters that are real and that readers care about. Although the book focuses mainly on the McAfee's, there are numerous subplots going on. Macomber will focus on one set of characters in one chapter, another set in the next chapter, yet another set in the next and so on throughout the book which can be confusing. There seems to be no rhyme or reason for which character is featured and I often had to flip back to see what had happened several chapters back. There is a character guide in the front of the book, which is helpful, but in the future it would be better if Macomber cut back on the number of plots and characters in the books. With so many characters, Macomber does an amazing job of continuity through all the books (this is the fifth in an ongoing series), even referencing things in past books, although there is no mention of Nate's girlfriend which was a conflict in his relationship with Rachel in past books. While some of the plots in the book are unique, like the threatening postcards, other plots are a bit repetitive - isn't there one woman in Cedar Cove that can have a complication free pregnancy?

Fans of Debbie Macomber and especially fans of her Cedar Cove series will enjoy this book. ( )

The fifth installment in the Cedar Cove series, we learn who has been sending the mysterious postcards to the detective, we are introduced to a new character who is a bit of a fire bug and like usual there is a least one wedding. The series is a nice enjoyable ride, not too bumpy, a little teary at times, just pretty mellow. ( )

There’s never a dull moment in Cedar Cove. Grace is trying to win Cliff back after her crush on best friend’s brother ends their relationship. Linnette moves home only to have her mom fix her up with Cal, a man she is definitely NOT attracted to. Olivia and Jack settle into their new marriage until an emergency causes them to really think about their feelings for each other. Finally, the reader learns the truth behind those mysterious notes Corrie and her husband Roy have been receiving.

As always, I enjoyed this addition to the Cedar Cove series. ( )

(No. 5 of the Cedar Cove series.)

If you like Jan Karon's Mitford Lane books, this Cedar Cove series will become your new favorite. Macomber blends real-world drama and situations with quaint, small town idealism. You'll find yourself identify with at least one character here. I loved Lynette and Cal's courtship and the storyline with Allison and Anson is surprising too, making me want to get the next book.
