I did not like this book at all. I did not like the way it was written. I felt like I was reading a diary, it has too much unnecessary information. The author could have written a better 100-page story. I was bored all the way. ( )

Willowtree is a murder mystery and Mike Bove's first book. Hopefully, it will be the first in a series featuring author Mike Bove's alter ego Bruce DelReno, both retired postal workers and ardent golfers.

Bruce, as a character, seems like a mix of Larry David and Lew Archer. He just keeps pushing on, especially when not wanted, and unwinds the sins of the past that keep interfering with the present.

Bruce surrounds himself with an interesting group of supporting players that will allow author Mike Bove to make Willowtree the Cabot Cove of Arizona. ( )

This is the first volume in what I hope will be one of many involving the characters of Willowtree. The writing has a good flow to it, the characters are believable and even better, likeable. The main character, a wannabe detective, or else just someone who is bored and wants some excitement (lol), is Bruce DelReno. A lot of the book is about golf, or I should say involves golf. Not being a golf lover myself I thought I wouldn't really take to this book but I was in for a pleasant surprise. Mr. Bove made it very easy to understand which shows the makings of a truly good author. He draws the reader into not onlt the mystery but the characters and their lives. A great read indeed! ( )

This book is an okay murder mystery. A bit slow to start, and a bit too much about golf. (I tend to agree with Winston Churchill about golf.) However, once the 'crime solving' kicked in it picked up.

I had a bit of trouble getting into this book as I'm not a golfer but once I did, I found it very enjoyable. Mr Bove has a kind of informal way of writing that makes the book a lot of fun to read. This is the first in the Bruce delReno mystery series and I look forward to reading more in the future. ( )
