Dreamwater is comprised of 3 short stories. The writing is good, but the concepts are a little lacking.

Indra's Return --- A young warrior returns to avenge the wrongful death of his beloved. But is surprised at what he finds. I liked this story with the surprise ending. Even if I realized what was happening shortly before the big reveal.

World of Shells --- Young man set out to find girl before night sets in, despite the terrors and difficulties he must face. I didn't care for this one. It was a bit boring. And the ending really didn't make sense to me.

The Wolf Game --- Werewolves, werefoxes, and werelions: Where is the line for taking it too far? Not very good in my opinion. Concept not a total lose, but need to be done better. ( )

An amazing collection of short stories that will capture your imagination and make you want more. Well developed characters, situations, and storyline. I must admit each short story would make an awesome novel all by itself. If you enjoy a story that can be read in one sitting this is your book. You can finish these stories relatively fast but I suggest relishing them one at a tme. ( )

Dreamwater is a collection of three short fantasy stories. The first, Indra’s Return is the story of a noble who returns to take revenge on the Elven King for the death of the woman he loved. The second, World of Shells is about a boy who bravely sets out to find his sister is a world where deadly giant lizards and hungry birds of prey make being out after dark fatal. The Wolf Game is a story about Mara, a shadow woman enslaved by a ghoul and a werewolf who may or may not be on her side. These stories are all short but even so, the worlds the characters inhabit are well developed. Thoma is a promising writer and worth keeping an eye on. It would be interesting to see what she would do with a longer format. ( )

I have become increasingly in love with Thoma's stories! When I first started reading, I was worried that the characters and plots would be cliche (especially with the introduction of the angsty elf). However, she certainly proved me wrong quickly. Despite being short stories, she does a wonderful job making the characters realistic and fascinating. All of the main characters had inner conflicts which gets resolved quite neatly. The plot and the "world" in each story is original and well-written. The third story is the longest but the first two are my favorites because it was just so unexpected.

I found nothing particularly bad about the stories. At most, the stories felt too short (which is expected since, duh, they ARE short stories). They were long enough to get you hooked but not enough for you to feel satisfied.

Overall, I would recommend this book to any fantasy fan who's ready to experiment and try a new author. I'm unsure if this book is actually worth the price since it's short enough to be done in an hour. I will just have to leave it to you. If you find this book enjoyable then you will certainly love her other book "Rex Rising". I know I did!
