The plot kept my interest, though I wasn't particularly surprised at any point. There were a few problem areas for me, the main one being this: The writing often dragged, offering too much detail on things that didn't matter to the story. For instance, we spend a long time at a bar playing a quiz game with the characters. I didn't need to know the questions that were asked, who answered them correctly, etc. At the same time, I didn't feel there was enough detail when it did matter. For instance, I didn't feel I ever got to know Jessica, the main character, well enough to connect with her. I wanted to feel more emotions. For instance, rather than playing the quiz game along with the characters, we could have stepped into Jessica's mind more to understand how she felt about her friends and all that was going on in her life at the time. Overall, this is a good crime story that doesn't require a lot of emotional investment. Zeige 2 von 2 keine Rezensionen | Rezension hinzufügen
Gehört zur ReiheJessica Daniel (2)
Dead bodies are piling up for Detective Sergeant Jessica Daniel. Usually when a serial killer is on the loose, the pressure would be building to find the perpetrator, but in this case the victims are all hardened criminals themselves. The media can't believe their luck with an apparent vigilante on the streets, while Jessica's new boss seems grateful someone else is doing their job for them. But things aren't so straightforward when forensics matches blood from the apparent killer to a man already behind bars. Keine Bibliotheksbeschreibungen gefunden. |

I wanted to like this book but the story was so far fetched and slow that I just couldn't. I guess it has to do with it being a British crime story, what with no guns and all.
Good effort by the author but not my cup of tea... ( )
