Harvey, son of late William Marsburg, inherits a special surprise after his father's passing. It's been years since he talked or even seen his dad, and to sum it up he couldn't care less about him. Upon receiving this gift, a safe filled with 3 particular looking books, he loathes his father even more for opening past wounds. They have never seen eye to eye with each other; Harvey always believed that his dad was crazed or deranged.
After Harvey figured out the combination to the safe he found his father's diary, another diary written in German, and a book that looks really old and ominous. Giving his father's diary a chance, he read through his father's past and soon realizes that everything that he thought of him was wrong. Even more eye opening is that everything his father rambled on about that made him the mad man they all knew has some actual truth. And the evil presence that once haunted his dad is now falling Harvey while he reads his father's words.
Marsburg Diary gave the Victorian language center of my brain a work out! I'm not a seasoned Victorian era reader so it took me a few tries to get into the story, and it was a bit slow at the start. However, once I got use to it I appreciated how well-written it is and that I found myself pulled into the life and struggle of William Marsburg. He literally went through hell from the torment he undergone, and not knowing whether his mind was still sane to lust for a book so much. There wasn't much excitement that got me compelled into the story. I wanted to know more about Harvey, and a little bit of how he came to be (Mother/Siblings). I rated Marsburg Diary 4 STARS because the ending is what grabbed me. It was a great ending! But a bit disappointing that the final piece is what's memorable.
I look forward to reading 'The Wagner Diary' coming in 2012 and 'Michael' the sequel to 'Airel.' ( )
