I was expecting this one to be a lot of things, but mindblowingly boring was not one of them.

Poor writing, lazy romance, paper thin characters, repetitive and boring sex scenes, no plot, plain bad world building.

I was prepared to love every cliche, disregard every mistake, move past every rapey and problematic aspect, if only it had some good porn to get off to.

How can you go wrong with vampire sorority girl on girl smut? Well, apparently like so.

I really thought it was impossible to mess up any erotica with vampires and bisexual/lesbian couples.

I really liked this book, will definitely read the next one in the series, but a few things bothered me. At times the writing was very basic and repetitive and I didn't feel that Ginger and Camila were as compatible as they believed they were (mostly because Gingers reaction to even the slightest inconvenience seemed to be to get angry and storm off, constantly wanting space but not actually explaining that, at multiple times she seems to want Camila to apologise for something that isn't her fault, etc.). But the biggest thing that bothered me, and the main reason I didn't rate this as a 4 star book, was because at multiple times both humans vampires cry BLUE tears??? Blue liquid falls from their eyes leaving blue streaks down their faces and at one point, even stains a tissue blue???

But if you can ignore that, then this is a great book. ( )

God damn it, I wanted to love this book and was fully prepared to do so. I mean, it has vampires and it's written by Rebekah Weatherspoon! Come on! It should have been great!

Except it wasn't.

Now, I realize that this is Rebekah's first book published by Bold Strokes, and is likely her first book published at all. So I wasn't expecting it to be as amazing as some of her more recent works, like "Treasure" and "At Her Feet" (both of which I highly recommend, by the way). But I just could NOT get into this story at all.

I didn't care for the character of Ginger, and since the book was written from her point of view, that had a lot to do with it. And then there was the instalove, which I almost always hate (and this was not an exception to that rule) and the fact that Ginger was more of a receiver than a giver when it came to sex, and...nope. None of it was working for me. Even with vampires, it wasn't working for me. I won't be picking up Benny's book (well, I already bought it - silly me! - but I won't be reading it). I am disappointed. ( )

Vampire are Not My Thing. Lesbians - whatever floats your boat, but they don't "do it" for me. Sorority sisters? Like, NO, d'uh!

So I expected this book to be a sludge, hoping to find some slight thing I could praise, because I know the author personally and I wanted to find something, anything, nice to say about her debut novel.

Instead, it was cover to cover pleasure. I wouldn't have read this book if I didn't know the author, but I can honestly say that I loved this book despite my normal indifference to its main elements.


Ginger, the lead character, isn't really "into" the whole sorority thing, either (girl after my own heart), but agrees to accompany her roommate Amy through 'rushing,' with an eye to protecting her. She find herself joining a very different kind of sorority, and being paired with Camila. I don't want to give it away, but I will say that Camila is a fairly young vampire, despite being very powerful. She makes mistakes, which lead to some interesting plot twists, but also allow the relationship between her and Ginger to be more of love between equals, than between one superpowerful being and one naive young person, which I very much liked.

There were a number of secondary characters and B-plots which I know will turn into interesting stories as the series continues. And the sex scenes were sizzling hot; I did not expect that they would be so, uhm, INTERESTING, to a person who doesn't swing that way. They are. *fans self, gets cold drink* If you enjoy erotic fiction of any sort, read this book. You will not be disappointed. ( )
