Brandon Webb's experiences in the world's most elite sniper corps are the stuff of legend. From his grueling years of training in Naval Special Operations, to his combat tours in the Persian Gulf and Afghanistan, The Red Circle provides a rare and personal look at the inner workings of the US military through the eyes of a covert operations specialist. Yet it is Webb's distinguished second career designing new post-9/11 sniper training courses that make him such an interesting former operator. Following the events of 9/11, Brandon went on to manage the SEAL sniper course, designing new curricula and training a generation of SEAL graduates who became some of the most accomplished snipers of the 21st century.… (mehr)

"Excellence Matters."

This is the virtue on which Brandon Webb relates "The Red Circle", his memoir of the times when he was an elite SEAL. For those not in the know-how, Webb was the Operative who trained such legendary SEALS as Chris Kyle and Marcus Luttrell and restructured the legendary SEAL Sniper School.

The necessity of Webb's memoir lies in how he humanizes the world of Special Forces to establish that irrespective of themselves, individuals can push their limits if they are willing to outdo themselves in their lives. I was hooked from the first page and didn't put down "The Red Circle" until it's finale. ( )

I purchased this book at Barnes and Noble some time ago, originally reading it as research for the main character in Serpents Underfoot and its sequel, Montagnard. I just finished re-reading it, and for the second time, I could not put it down.

If you read and enjoy books like American Sniper or Lone Survivor, then this is another book you will absolutely enjoy. Webb takes the reader through SEAL training, the war in Afghanistan, his role in improving the SEAL sniper training program, and so much more.

This is not a book of nonstop SEAL adventure, though there is enough of that to satisfy most readers. This is a book about what it is actually like to be a SEAL written by a SEAL. ( )

Yes. The author is a bad ass. No question. But seemed similar to other SEAL stories. Talks about missions and teams. Picked this one up as I was interested in the title that said, "...and how I trained America's Deadliest Marksmen". Except the info on the training he gave is only the last 30 pages or so. Seemed misleading. ( )
