Title: Violent Sunday (The Last Gunfighter #11)
Author: William W Johnstone
E-book: 300
Year: 2016
Publisher: Pinnacle Books
My rating: 5 out of 5 stars
Frank Morgan is known as The Drifter and is the central character in the Last Gunfighter series. He is a man of compassion, courage and heart. Frank Morgan has lived life as it comes to him since he was a young man and fear doesn’t enter his thinking, because if it did, he’d be dead. In the story, Frank is attending a wedding of two people he cares a lot about, Victoria Munfore and Tyler Beaumont. Before Frank arrives, he has to stop in a small town to ask the blacksmith to reshoe his horse. What comes from that short stop reveals the heart of Frank Morgan and the way folks befriend him.
Then Frank meets up with Tyler later as they both come to a town that is on the verge of an all-out range war. Two sides are at each other’s throat, but what they don’t see are those who are pulling the strings. Frank and Tyler didn’t arrive together, and they didn’t plan what happened either when one sides with the small ranches and the other is hired on as a cowboy with the big ranches. The point of contention--fences.
There are other points in the story that aren’t revealed in this review, and not all characters are mentioned. The reason is that the joy of discovery and the excitement building in the reader would be lost if I told all there is in the series, or in this one story. I have been reading the Last Gunfighter series in order as each book shows a little bit more about the central character of Frank Morgan. Yes, audiences could still enjoy the tales if read out of order or if one reads just this book but that would be unfortunate because so much action, mystery, romance, and intrigue await the one who opens the novel to enjoy time in the old west via this work of fiction.
