In a single afternoon, Iona’s husband and both parents disappear without a trace, leaving her alone to deal with her crippling diseases. She vows never to love any living thing again. She finds herself standing in front of a mirror with a knife at her throat, ready to end it all. But that changes when a puppy shows up in a basket on her doorstep, and she and her new best friend are magically taken to another planet—an everafter land called Maycly.
Everything prophesied in The Book of Good and Evil, written by the Grand Wizard, SUL, at the time of creation, has now come to fruition, and the future of Earth and Maycly depends on the outcome of epic battles between Good and Evil. Armies of Maycly’s inhabitants—chukkons, wightlings, and all manner of animals—are trained in the ways of war knowing that the outcome rests in their hands. If they are victorious, Good will reign eternally and Evil will be destroyed.
The world of Maycly is the stuff of fairy tales; it has everything anyone could ever want. You’ll find yourself frolicking with Sprites, etherealians, equinarchs, raffedaries, and a realm of others that will capture your heart. But beware, as there are also grumners, mondobrawns, ousoabs, vauhlpeezies, and other evil characters that do their best to make Earth and Maycly dark places ruled by Tarnnin, an etherealian gone bad. Be prepared to fall in love with Artie and his icataras, Keegan and his family, and Charleo and his wife Marlen and their two boys, Denton and Dittle, when you travel to Maycly on a skyship pulled by mandibleron gryphons. You’ll never want to come back to Earth.

This inspirational epic fairy tale is perfect for a fun family-time read and discussion. Maycly takes the reader on the journey of Iona. Iona was set for life - health, wealth, family, and friends. But when all she's ever know is taken from her and she's forced to fend for herself her attitude on life makes a drastic change. She's never doubted her trust in the Grand Wizard, SUL, but after the compounding circumstances don't seem to be getting any better, she gives up on SUL all together. It isn't until a puppy shows up on her doorstep that Iona makes a split decision. Her choice leads her into the path of a fun and rather odd character who, for one reason or another (or perhaps through desperation), Iona decides to befriend and trust...something she's not done with anyone for several years.
The story explodes and takes the reader back 100 years on the world of Maycly where the stage is being set for their queen's hopeful arrival. Within that 100 years you'll meet a band of characters who range from 8 to 317 years old! You'll meet good ones and evil ones. You will be introduced to the many things of Maycly including the chukkon race, equinarchs, towdies, ethrealians, and flowering puddle jumpers just to name a few.
Not to worry - Iona will return to the story as you catch back up to real time with her.
This book has already been deemed a classic, a great discussion piece, and so much more. Through onsite presentations at schools and libraries, this dynamic sister duo of Author Janet Beasley and Illustrator Dar Bagby, kids are perking up and becoming interested in not just the story, but also life situations and discovering how Iona handled them.
If you love fairy tales with moral values that revolve around good vs. evil, or fairy tales that are family-safe containing NO vulgarity, explicit sex scenes, or profanity (the epic battles to contain violence that may be frightening to younger children), then this is the story for you. ( )
