Surprisingly, he was an anthroplogist among the more naturally devout Christians, C.S. Lewis, J.R.R. Tolkien, and Charles Wiliams, the other three major writng members of the Inklings. The Inklings met toether regualarly at pubs in Oxford in the pre-World War II period, and during the war. Barfield spent most of his earning career as a solicitor in London, but had noteworthy writing on how to look at language and lierature that are still relevant today. Lewis and Tolkien were associated with literture departments at Ocxford University, and Williams was a major editor at Oxford University Press. So, the Inklings had something of a common background. They also had an appreciation of fantasy and mythi elements in their own writings, although this was somewhat minor for Barfield. This is a good book to get a somewhat different look at the Inklings group ( ) keine Rezensionen | Rezension hinzufügen
