I'm not a big mystery reader, but I've really enjoyed Lowcountry Bribe. Each page is jam-packed with conflict, and in Carolina Slade, author Clark has a main character who will make you wonder when the next book is coming out. ( )

A different type of hero is Slade. Great development of characters and plot. The author paints her characters vividly as well; as provides twists and turns that surprise her reader.

I liked it. Too bad only the first book of the series is available free with my Kindle Unlimited subscription, nor is it available from my area Overdrive. ( )

I completely enjoyed this new series from C. Hope Clark. Carolina Slade works for the USDA in a not glamorous job loaning money to farmers. See, not glamorous. However, she does it with grace and empathy for those who seek her help, until she is offered a bribe by a local hog farmer. A no-brainier, Slade reports the attempted bribe do a federal employee to her boss and her world falls apart. I immediately connected with the character as a strong southern woman able to take control and handle stress. She uncovered and helped solve the mysterious deaths of coworkers and ring of criminals in her sleepy little town without really wanting to and rid herself of the negativity plaguing her at the same time. I will read the next Carolina Slade Mystery.

I've received Hope Clark's email newsletters over the years which have provided progress updates on her debut novel so I was eager to read Lowcountry Bribe when it became available. Clark knows Slade intimately. Clark worked in the US Department of Agriculture and is married to a former federal officer. They met during a bribery investigation. Sound familiar? :)

Everything Bell Bridge Books has published, that I've read, I've enjoyed. Lowcountry Bribe is no exception. The opening scene reels the reader in. The book is well-paced and Slade is relatable. Slade is put into some dangerous situations and it's only the first novel! This is a good novel to read while cozying up to the fireplace or sitting on the porch with a cold lemonade. ( )

Good Story! Probably would have given it four stars but the main relationship seemed hard to believe ( )
