Not recommended. This book isn't completely off base, but I don't think it is a truly Biblical view on forgiveness. Letting go of past hurts is different than accepting someone's repentance and forgiving them in a bi-lateral transaction. The Bible talks about the former as not allowing a root of bitterness, but never calls that forgiveness. Biblical forgiveness requires repentance, and it is never unilateral. In spite of the theological problems, I did find some value from this book, I just wouldn't recommend it to someone who is really trying to understand what the Bible says on forgiveness. I heard this author preach at Chase Oaks Church in Plano, TX, and he was a good speaker. I bought the book thinking Chase Oaks was endorsing it, but later the church backed away from endorsement of the material even after giving Mr. Hebel the pulpit and a table outside the worship area to sell his materials. Not sure what happened on Chase Oaks backing off their endorsement as the details weren't completely clear even in the written statement put out by the church. I would not go as far to say this is heretical teaching, but just not spot on with what the Bible does have to say on forgiveness which is an incredibly important topic. I also bought the audio materials created by this coauthor couple. I'm happy to lend them to anyone who would like to listen or read the book, just with the caveat to test everything against Scripture. ( )
