When Karen Ingalls was diagnosed with Stage II Ovarian Cancer, she realized how little she knew about what was once called "the silent killer." As Ingalls began to educate herself she felt overwhelmed by the prevalent negativity of cancer. Lost in the information about drugs, side effects, and statistics, Ingalls redirected her energy to focus on the equally overwhelming blessings of life, learning to rejoice in each day and find peace in spirituality. In this memoir, Karen is a calming presence and positive companion, offering a refreshing perspective of hope with the knowledge that "the beauty of the soul, the real me and the real you, outshines the effects of cancer, chemotherapy, and radiation." Outshine: An Ovarian Cancer Memoir is a story of survival, and reminds readers that disease is not an absolute, but a challenge to recover. Book jacket.… (mehr)

This is a short but profound book. Karen Ingalls shares her experience in discovering then "dealing with" this deadly, silent killer.

Outshine contains good information for all women - not just those who have been diagnosed with cancer. She lists steps to take to catch it in the early stages.

Karen offers heartfelt advise and support for those going through this abhorrent condition.

I want to applaud Karen for her writing this helpful, easily read book. It can possibly save many women's lives in the future.

The title will be verified within the over of her book as will the book cover.

I have a difficult time reviewing some memoirs because most of them seem to offer too much information to keep the reader's interest yet deliver a message often needing to be heard and take note of.

I do feel this book deserves a Four Stars rating for importance of content. It is written well and concise.

This was sent to me by the author for an honest review of which I have given. ( )

This is a short quick read chronicling one women's journey through diagnosis, and treatment of ovarian cancer. It is full of helpful advice and inspiring quotes. For someone who is perhaps not a reader, or possibly already overwhelmed with a diagnosis of ovarian cancer this would be on my highly recommended book list. It is not long, and does not dwell on the negative, but instead focuses on how to journey through the experience, drawing from the authors own personal journey. ( )
