A TAVERN WENCH. THE SCARRED KNIGHT WHO CAPTURES HER. Danewyn is nothing more than a tavern wench, or so she pretends. She hides her ability to see into the unknown for fear she'll be condemned by the village priests. But when she makes a prediction about the Red Fox--the lost prince and rightful heir to Britain's throne--she's overheard by one of his knights, putting her in grave danger as a suspected spy.Captured and carried off for questioning, she's held prisoner at the Red Fox's camp, under the guard of Sir Ferrum, an enormous and badly scarred knight. Sir Ferrum does not hesitate to punish her attempts to flee, but he also reveals a gentleness difficult to reconcile with the harsh discipline. As her feelings for him grow, Dani must decide whether to continue her plans for escape or accept her new role as Sir Ferrum's lady and Seer to the Red Fox.… (mehr)

Danewyn couldn’t keep her mouth shut when the soldier spewed off about becoming a knight and the rewards he would reap from the king. After the whore had taken care of him and his three friends, she had had enough of his talk and told him exactly what lie ahead of him before she noticed yet another man with his wary eye on her. When he and his two friends took her to “talk” she had no idea if she would ever return. Taken from the London streets, she was surprised at how gentle the soldier treated her and of the acceptance of her “gift” from the Red Fox–the exiled Prince Phillip himself.

Ferrum was shocked such a treasure of a woman was whoring herself for pennies. In the time before the Prince was in hiding, her gift of sight would have been a precious talent. While he is keeping her under his guard, she soon works her way under his skin, but her need to escape leads him to prove she is his to discipline as needed.

Dani accepts her new place in life and despite her reluctance she finds herself craving the discipline Ferrum gives her on a daily basis, bonding him to her like no man before. Helping them fight to take back the throne rightly belonging to Phillip, she uses her sight to show them what needs to be done, but it will be her that will have to strike the blow needed to win. She needs to get close to the King. Closer than Ferrum can allow, though Dani will suffer any punishment to keep her love safe and alive.

This book might not be for everyone primarily because of the heavy use of spanking and discipline on the heroine. I myself was a little emotional when it seemed a little heavy, but as I read on I felt the bond that it wielded between Dani and Ferrum. I saw how it was a part of their lives that neither wanted to do without and both wanted and needed it. Dani was a strong character who demanded exactly what she needed of her lover in many ways and would sacrifice everything for a chance to save both his life and that of everyone dependant on the Prince and his men to recoup the throne.
