Robert Munro, a therapist specializing in dream interpretation, awoke one morning to find himself in a dream from which he could not awaken. Experiencing first hand the limitations of his own training and theories, he must solve the puzzle of his own dream in order to break free from its bondage. In the process, he'll better understand himself, other people, and the nature of consciousness itself. What begins as the captivating story of one man's descent into the dream world of his own subconscious soon becomes a heart-wrenching novel of surprise and inner discovery, raising questions about the reliability of memory, childhood trauma, psychological repression and the limits of conscious awareness and human self-understanding.… (mehr)

If Sigmund Freud wrote a novel, this might be it. The premise of it explores dream interpretation, the subconscious, mysteries of the mind, etc. -- but as physically materialized in the waking life of the protagonist, who is a psychologist by profession. Life: Are we awake in a dream, or are we dreaming when awake? He seeks to unravel the meaning behind the manifestations so as to fix his life and his relationships. Personally, I would have preferred a more in depth foray into the esoteric and metaphysical, so for me, it's just an OK read. ( )

Stormy Weather takes the reader on a journey between the waking world and the dream world, with a detour through Alice in Wonderland. Dr. Robert Munro is a psychiatrist that specializes in dream interpretation. He is the cerebral, analytical therapist that grounds his patients in reality, so when he begins to experience events he cannot explain, he takes his own advice.

Over the course of the novel Dr. Munro reflects on his own life experiences, rediscovering his love of music and achieving a new sense of self during his cathartic adventures, to allow himself to heal the rift that has grown between him and his family in the process.

Though short, this novel is extremely entertaining and hard to put down. Davis skillfully draws his characters and displays his knowledge of dream interpretation. Stormy Weather is a quick, satisfying read. ( )
