This is my very first book in the Mark of the Vampire series by Laura Wright. Eternal Demon is book number 5 in the series. While it would be ideal to have read the books in order, I think this book stands well on its own. If you’re an avid reader of the Mark of the Vampire series then you will love this book. If you are new to the series like I was, you can expect an exciting suspenseful ride with loads of danger, twists and turns and lots of hot vampire sex. I do think Ms. Laura Wright has another hit on her hands. ( )

Quick & Dirty: Search for a lost son and salvation of sisters clash but can they unite to defeat a common enemy?

Opening Sentence: Erion landed on the familiar cobblestone street, not giving a shit who saw him flash, who saw him feral.

The Review:

Let us get this out of the way first, I’m jumping into this series very late but I found myself intrigued not only by the world but by the laser-like precision in which this book was executed. Ms. Wright was able to grab my attention and maintain it during the entire book. In fact I was so engrossed that I nearly missed an important meeting and I’d say that is a great start. In case you are wondering, I made the meeting by the skin of my teeth.

We are drawn into a world where Erion has just lost his balas or child to the one creature on earth that Erion would love to rip from limb to limb if he got the chance, Cruen, a sadistic vampire. Not knowing any of the back story, I was sucked into the depth of this novel by Erion’s passion and despair at losing his child. Makes a heart go all mushy when a guy is that passionate about his child.

He goes on a quest to find where Cruen has taken his son, Ladd, and discovers through his interrogation of Cruen’s family that Cruen is set to wed. Erion then goes hunting for Cruen’s fiancé.

Cruen’s fiancé, Hellen, is the eldest daughter of the devil but has no love for Cruen or her father and only seeks to protect her younger sisters. The devil has used Hellen’s marriage to Cruen as the bargaining chip to secure his other daughters choice in whom they wed. My respect and admiration of Hellen is great. She is ready to sacrifice herself in order to ensure that her siblings are given a choice. Hellen is the type of woman that would stick by your side once you had become her friend through thick, thin and high water.

There are moments that I was dragged from Hellen and Erion’s story a little abruptly for my liking due to the continuation of the over arching story. Some of these had me more confused than enamored of the characters, but I can definitely see that Ms. Wright knows exactly where this story is going and where all her characters are in that story. For this she receives not only a pass but kudos for such insight and determination to move her story forward.

Then the question becomes do I jump into book 5 of Mark of the Vampire series or do I start at the beginning and work my way forward? I’m of two minds regarding this. Firstly, there is nothing like getting a book hot off the presses. But I think you may be doing the series a disservice by jumping into the new shiny book. Secondly, you could grab all the other books in the series and then work your way up to book 5, and get the full measure of enjoyment from all the characters that I only have a passing acquaintance with right now.

Finally, this book is one that needs to be added to every “To Be Read” pile. Whether you read it in the order that the author intended you to read them or just jump into the deep end of this amazing and well formatted world. I shall definitely be reading more of this series and when I get a spare few hours I shall visit book 1 to 4 so that I can grasp the true magnitude of this series.

Notable Scene:

Hellen nodded, but her fingers flexed, ached to hold her weapon.

“You will not shame me.”

“I am rather good at it, though, Father.”

Again the flash of fury clouded his already pale eyes. “Yes,” he hissed. “But after today the consequences will be dire.”

Hellen’s muscles tensed. “Today?” She’d thought she had more time.

The Devil’s grin made the black scorched earth below her feet tremble. “The time has come, daughter. You will leave us and take your place aboveground–”

“With the bloodsucker,” Hellen finished for him, unable to restrain her acerbic tone.

Abbadon’s nostrils flared and he coiled over her like a snake. The air went silent and the rain ceased to fall. It was his attempt at intimidation. There was nothing the Demon King appreciated more that fear in his offspring. Especially from the one before him.

FTC Advisory: Signet Eclipse/Penguin provided me with a copy of Eternal Demon. No goody bags, sponsorships, “material connections,” or bribes were exchanged for my review. ( )

Our Review, by LITERAL ADDICTION's Pack Alpha - Michelle L. Olson:
*eARC received from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review

Eternal Demon is another incredible installment to a series I will forever be grateful I discovered.

Fans of the MARK OF THE VAMPIRE series know that as the series has progressed, the world has been expanding along with the growth of the cast. Eternal Demon adds yet another realm to the incredible world Laura Wright has created for her readers, and with the introduction of this realm and new cast members, Laura embraced the darker side of her imagination and I absolutely loved it!!

Our hero, Erion - a vampire Mutore hybrid - is on a mission to rescue a child kidnapped by the villain of our series, Cruen.

Our heroine, Hellen, is one of the Devil's daughters. She has been betrothed to Cruen in order to form an alliance between the vampires and demons, though there are more nefarious purposes in play that Hellen is unaware of.

In order to draw Cruen out, Erion kidnaps Hellen and there is an instant connection, even though neither quite understand it at first. They have a ton of things in common, and yet it's more than that. As the two end up working together to save Ladd, their connection grows even stronger.

Laura created a perfect match for Erion in Hellen. They bring out the best in each other, help each other forgive the things they can't get past on their own, and remind one another that they're special and worth loving. They also come alive on the page and have fantastic dialogue. As I mentioned earlier, Eternal Demon is quite a bit darker than the previous books of the series, and in compliment, the dialogue is a bit darker, and the humor more dry as well. it worked perfectly with Erion and Hellen, and made reading their transition from lust to love utterly entertaining.

I want to tell you SO much more about the plot of this amazing book but I can't without spoilers, so I'll simply tell you that in my honest opinion, this was a beautifully written and incredible addition to the MARK OF THE VAMPIRE series full of intrigue, action, danger, and romance. I love the additions to the cast, the expansion of the world to the Hell realm, and the darkness that Laura is tapping into in order to mesh it all together.

LITERAL ADDICTION gives Eternal Demon 5 Skulls and definitely recommends it. I do, however, suggest that you read the previous books of the series - including the eNovellas - first, to get the most enjoyment out of the book. Eternal Beauty (the eNovella right before Eternal Demon) is especially needed to understand the Epilogue of Eternal Demon, which is the draw dropping segue into book #6 of the series. I cannot wait!
