Anesthesiologist, Dr. Jenna Reiner, was blindsided on a January morning by an incident that would forever change her life. A scrub technician at her hospital was stealing narcotics from anesthesiologists, injecting those same narcotics into her veins, and returning the contaminated syringes, knowing they would be used on patients. The scrub tech was infected with hepatitis C, a deadly virus. Unknowingly, anesthesiologists at St. Augustine Hospital were injecting their patients with hepatitis C laden syringes. When Dr. Jenna Reiner administered anesthesia, she was holding a murder weapon in her hands. Dr. Reiner was about to find out that not only was her hospital at risk, but her entire life was about to be turned upside down. A scrub tech's addiction evolves into a public health scare, potentially affecting thousands. Unfortunately, on that fateful day, Dr. Reiner and her patient fell victim to an addict. The ensuing medical malpractice suit filed by Allison Anders, a ruthless attorney, becomes a battle for survival for Jenna and her family. For Dr. Reiner, the lawsuit is personal. Jenna Reiner faces more demons than she thought imaginable as she fights against greed, brutality, accusations, and a corrupt legal system. Will Dr. Reiner prevail? Or will the system win? Inspired by true events, IT'S NOTHING PERSONAL is a story of endurance and pain beyond imagination.… (mehr)

It's Nothing Personal is a medical-legal thriller that kept me interested all the way to the end. It's the story of an anesthesiologist who is being sued for giving a patient Hep C because a drug-addicted tech in the OR stole some drugs and replaced them with drugs in dirty needles. Interesting and timely premise.

As far as I can tell, this is the first novel from this author and it shows a lot of promise. I found the characters to be well-drawn and easy to relate to. There were a few passages that were over technical on either the legal or medical side. There was a little too much crying. There was a little too much back-and-forth over whether this would go to trial or settle. All that aside, I did find myself wanting to find out what happens next and I read this in two sittings. It was a pleasurable read and I'll be looking forward to more from this author. ( )

WOW! What a tremendously talented writer Sherry Gorman (alias Kate O'Reilley) is!

This was a bittersweet and powerful story of an anesthesiologist who lived through
two years of a nightmare. Through the acts of a selfish, ruthless individual, the repercussions
affected the lives of many innocent people, including Dr. Jenna Reiner.

It is the amazing account of the impact society and some of the evils of power and money
can have in bringing the worst out of individuals.

Without spoiling the struggle of the main character, Jenna, and all she had to repeatedly
endure, I will list some of the key points made in the story.

Drug addiction, hospital security and procedures, medical employees, malpractice
attorneys and lawsuits, mental instability/depression.

I could not hardly bear to put the book down. The only two complaints I have is:
#1. I did not like the books beginning. It left the reader becoming frustrated with
what it referred to which kept the reader distracted until further in the book.
The attention-getting line could have easily been worked in a little further into the
beginning chapters and less distracting.
#2. The profanity and crudeness was very unnecessary, plus, couple of inappropriate
intimate sex scenes added nothing to the story and was put in as if meant for a different
story. It really didn't pertain to the plot. It would have been sufficient to profess the
expletives were used and word the intimate feelings as the author effectively did in
the rest of the story.

Nevertheless, it was a profound story and very well-written.

The book was exchanged for an honest book review which I have honestly given. ( )

Jenna Reiner is an anesthesiologist whose life is turned upside-down when one of her patients contracts Hepatitis C from a contaminated syringe, switched out by an infected scrub nurse stealing drugs. One of the victims decides go sue not only the scrub nurse, but the hospital and Jenna herself; this is mainly the story of her experience being sued. I found the legal portions of the story interesting, but Jenna herself was a little bit tiresome, what with everybody always talking about what a saint she is, and how different she is from those awful other doctors. The ending was at once disappointing and realistic. All the same, it was a change from the usual, since here we have a medical malpractice suit from the doctor's point of view, with the reminder that everyone involved is a well-meaning human being (except maybe the lawyers).

A bit of background I knew going into this: the author of this book went through a very similar situation. I don't know that all the characters acted quite as she portrayed them, but it was an informative survey of the process and, I imagine, a fairly cleansing act for the author herself. I haven't decided if I'm glad I knew that this story was semiautobiographical beforehand or if it would have been better to find out afterward, but it certainly didn't detract from my enjoyment of the story. It just added a few extra "I wonder if this is really how it happened" questions from time to time. Certainly a different kind of medical drama. ( )

For Dr. Jenna Reiner everything in life was good. A great husband, beautiful daughter, and a job she loved. Then, everything went wrong before her very eyes. All of it because of something completely and totally beyond her control.

Be forewarned...this is no ordinary Medical Thriller. In fact this book will leave you with questions, frustrations, and not to mention complete shock and awe.
